The first day of school for St. Edmund students is Aug. 5. Students will report a half day. Dismissal will be at noon.
Students will report to school from 7:55 a.m. until 2:55 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Students will not be required to come to school half days or certain days of the week or alternate days.
If a student needs to check out during the day, he or she will only be allowed to return with a doctor’s excuse. Temperature will be checked before a student can return back to class.
Students will have a temperature check when exiting their vehicle at drop off. If a student becomes ill at school, they will remain in an isolated area away from other students and the parent will be notified.
Students will be required to wear masks and teachers also. Students, third grade through 12th grade are required to wear masks. Students, Pre-k through second grades, masks will be optional. Masks should be solid color with no writings or images. Medical masks or masks purchased through school will be allowed.
Students will use hand sanitizer upon entering school, after transition and before eating.
Handwashing will be required periodically throughout the day. High touch surfaces at school will be sanitized frequently throughout the day. Classrooms will be disinfectant and sanitized. Classroom desks will be spread apart to allow social distancing between students. There will be sanitizers at every room on campus.
There will be a learning option available via Livestream taught by St. Edmund teachers. This will be made available to any student in the event of health concerns or if a student is required to be quarantine.
According to Charles Hazard, the principal at St. Edmund, “In the event that a student gets COVID-19, this student will be quarantined and will have the opportunity to have classes through St. Edmund’s Zoom live online for educational courses, assignments and homework. The student will not miss school.”
There will be one-to-one computer stations available for students on campus.
Students will have outside recess with their homeroom class. Playground equipment will not be used.
Students in grades pre-k will have P.E. and will use social distancing and participate in non-contact activities.
Students will eat lunch daily inside the cafeteria, with social distancing used. Each student should bring their own bottled water from home everyday. They will not be allowed to use water fountains at school.
Students in grades prek through eighth grade will remain with the same cohort throughout the day.
Students will not be allowed to share school supplies.
School Masses will follow protocols set by Bishop Deshotel. Athletic events will adhere to state and local guidelines.
Students will be checked in and out by remaining in the vehicle, or by calling the office and sending an email.
There will be no large gatherings at this time on campus. There will be no orientation.
No visitors or volunteers will be allowed inside the school building during school hours.
Hazard said, “We want to accommodate All students here at St. Edmund.”
Hazard is a 39-year educator and has served as principal at St. Edmund for the past four years.
Hazard said that there are about 360 to 365 students on campus.
