Hurricane Delta caused about $1.4 million in damage to St. Landry Parish public schools.
Claudia Blanchard, director of operations for the School Board, gave the estimate at a meeting of the Board’s Buildings, Lands and Sites Committee meeting on Tuesday.
“We did have some damages. Overall, we were very very blessed. It could have been so much worse like our friends to the west,” she said.
Every school was to report damage and that was reported to the insurance carrier.
“We had a variety of things that occurred on some campuses. We had tree limbs and actual trees down, she said.
There are about 10 sites with roof damage, she said.
“Several of those sites we have tarps that have been put on these buildings until we get more information from our insurance company to prevent any water intrusion,” she said.
The damage estimate came from the insurance adjuster.
Blanchard said major damage occurred at Eunice High School where Delta damaged the gymnasium roof and exterior panels, the football stadium clock at Northwest High was damaged and singles are missing from the roof at Grand Prairie Elementary.
The running track at Northwest may have been damaged.
The Board has a 5% deductible at each location or a $100,000 total, she said.
A federal disaster has yet to be declared for St. Landry Parish for Hurricane Delta.
