February sales tax collections in St. Landry Parish remained on the plus side compared to a year ago, according to a monthly report released by the St. Landry Parish School Board sales tax division.
But collections were trending down in February compared to January.
St. Landry Parish’s total collections through February were $14,002,950,up 14.6% over the February 2020 collections.
The parish sales and use tax total includes collections for the parish government, School Board, solid waste, law enforcement, special tax districts and municipalities.
The totals do not include state sales taxes. The sales tax numbers are gross collections.
In Eunice, the total for the first two months of the year was $1,206,454, up 7.8% or $87,102.
In Opelousas, the January-February total was $1,808,073, up 6.7% from last year’s total of $1,694,975.
In Road District 1, which is collected in unincorporated St. Landry Parish, the first two-month total was $1,411,785, up 25.8% or $289,162, over the $1,122,623 collected in the same period in 2020. A 2% sales tax is collected in rural St. Landry Parish to fund Smooth Ride Home Program.
February collections were:
St. Landry Parish, February collections were $6,107,045, up 16.9% over February 2020 collections and down 22.7% from January collections.
In Road District 1, February collections were $648,843, up 23.5% from February 2020 and down 15% from January.
In Eunice, February collections were $554,375, up 27.7% from February 2020 and down 15% from January.
In Opelousas, February collections were $770,942, up 12% from February 2020 and down 25.7% from January.
Local sales tax rates in unincorporated St. Landry Parish are 5.55% parish tax rates that includes the 2% Smooth Ride Home Program tax.
The local sales tax rates in Eunice are 2.45% city and 3.55% parish.
The sales tax numbers include a use tax, which is paid on items used, stored or consumed. The sales tax is collected on a transaction.
