This time repairs to Eunice Elementary may be completed

Previous reports that repairs to Eunice Elementary have proven inaccurate.
But this time when Claudia Blanchard, director of operations for the St Landry Parish School Board, said the classroom building damaged by fire in August 2018 may be used for testing in April or May, it may be true.
Blanchard reported “great progress” on the building at the St. Landry Parish School Board’s Buildings, Lands and Sites Committee meeting on Monday.
The Board was offered photos of completed shelving, blinds, marker boards, and bulletin boards in the halls.
The state fire marshal is scheduled to inspect the building on Monday and if that works out, Blanchard said a punch list of items to be corrected will be done.
“Everything is looking extremely nice,” she said.
The project has been hindered by the flooding of the administration building in December 2018.
Before the August 2018 fire that gutted the classroom building, the Board had approved about $1 million in roofing work. That work was finally completed this year at the Eunice Elementary and Eunice Junior High School campuses.
Design changes in connection with the Eunice Elementary delayed construction along with hurricanes and and the COVID-19 pandemic delayed progress on the project.
