Hester Thibodeaux of Eunice celebrated her 104th birthday on Friday with her children and grandchildren from near and far.
Thibodeaux is walking a little bit slower these days. She lives at home in Eunice with help of others.
In the city of Church Point on April 9, 1917, the union of Alfin Thibodeaux and the former Regina Guidry welcomed to their family a daughter who they named Hester. She along with her seven sisters and four brothers grew up on their farm and attended they could and when they could in Lewisburg. Hester eventually married Ashton Thibodeaux, now deceased, and they parented 13 children during their 52 years of marriage.
Thibodeaux is the mother of 13 children, 10 sons and 3 daughters. Four of her children are now deceased, Louis Lincoln Thibodeaux, Elizabeth Thibodeaux Allison, Joseph Roger Thibodeaux and Kirby David Thibodeaux. Thibodeaux’s chil
Thibodeaux’s children include Manuel Thibodeaux, Joseph Lamson Thibodeaux, Joseph Clarin Thibodeaux, Marshall A. Thibodeaux, Jacqueline Thibodeaux, John Grady Thibodeaux, Delores Thibodeaux, John Gerald Thibodeaux, and Joseph Clifton Thibodeaux.
Thibodeaux has 39 grandchildren, 56 greatgrandchildren, 22 plus great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and associates from near and afar.
Thibodeaux is the oldest member of St. Mathilda Catholic Church.
Her daughter Delores Thibodeaux said, about her mother, “We love our mother and appreciate her, and appreciate her for her leadership and guidance. She is truly the heart and soul of her family, a true Matriarch.
“Several of her children have gone to become professional people and their road in life was made easier and more successful as they used the values which she had shared with each of them during their formative years.”
Delores added, “Everyone still stops by just to say hello and gets a hug and see how she is doing before they start their week. It is still a tradition that has been in place for years and continues to this day to seek the love, laughter, and wisdom” of Hester T. Thibodeaux, the 104-year-old matriarch of the Thibodeaux Family.”
