On Friday, August 13, 2021, Jeanette M. Gibson, 85, loving wife, mother & “Gran” passed away in her home after an extended illness.
Jeanette was born Feb.7, 1936 in Lake Charles, daughter to the late Pearl & Maurice Guillory & step father, Matthew Veillon. She was predeceased by her three siblings Rita, Ruby and Skip who certainly greeted her in heaven with Cajun/Zydeco music playing and a big plate of crawfish and dirty rice!
After joining the Air Force, she met her beloved, a young Pennsylvania Dutch Air Force man by the name of Robert Lee Gibson, whom she married on Feb. 15, 1956, recently celebrating their 65th anniversary. Their military days led them to live in six states: Texas, where her first two children (Steve Gregory and LeeAnn Marie) were born; Madrid Spain, where her last child (Yvonne Pearl) was born; Georgia; California; Maryland & then Alabama where they officially retired.
She will be remembered as creative, artistic and mostly for her sense of humor! Simple pleasures in life(reading, coloring, doing crossword puzzles in PEN,watching Jeopardy, gardening and pulling weeds) brought her great joy. Her talents were many! She was very accomplished at crocheting (Winning many ribbons at the State Fair) and painting. She was a life long LSU fan (Geaux Tigers) and lover of Mardi Gras celebrations in Eunice, LA where she spent the majority of her childhood.
She is survived by her husband and lifelong sweetheart Robert Lee Gibson. She also leaves behind, to carry on her amazing legacy, her beloved children, son, Steve Gibson; daughters, LeeAnn Cole and Yvonne Willis (son in law, Ken Willis); granddaughters Shannon Thornton (Michael) and Allison Harris (Matt); grandsons Josh Vines and Zach Vines; her only great grandson, Sean Patrick Thornton; numerous nieces, nephews and friends scattered across the United States; and sweet fur baby, “Duke”.
A life celebration will be held Saturday, September 25, at Frazer United Methodist Church in Montgomery, AL at 10 a.m. Pastor John Schmidt officiating. Please delay flowers until nearer to her service. You may contact the family at yvonnern2006@gmail.com.
The family would like to express sincere thanks to her compassionate caregivers & Kindred Hospice.
