Former Eunice Police Chief Gary “Goose” Fontenot died Friday afternoon, according to his son, Mayor Scott Fontenot.
The former police chief, an iconic figure in Eunice, had been in failing health for several years. He was 69 years old.
Scott Fontenot said arrangement are pending.
The police chief served 12 years — three terms — a feat no other chief managed in over 50 years.
