TRIAD meets in Eunice

The TRIAD workshop, a quarterly St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s sponsored event, was held from 9 a.m. until noon Wednesday at the VFW Post 8971 Hall.
Live music was provided by Glenn Dale Fontenot of Breaux Bridge as well as door prizes were given away donated by merchants and health care providers.
There were health care providers and other related senior vendors, such as credit union, hospital care, hospice, insurance, sheriff department available for those attending.
Some of the guest speakers included Charlie Jagneaux, clerk of court, Randy Miller of Eunice Community Garden, and Dr. Hawk Cambron of LA Family Practice.
Lunch was provided for all seniors at noon.
TRIAD is an agreement between the National Sheriff’s Association, International Association of Chief’s of Police and the American Association of Retired Persons. It was implemented to protect senior citizens through activities that inform them of the latest fraud and scam tactics.
In April 1994, St. Landry Sheriff’s Office, AARP and 10 municipal chiefs of police in St. Landry Parish signed the first TRIAD agreement. St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office has spearheaded the TRIAD by sponsoring the crime prevention workshops.
A workshop is a day of information on fraud, identity theft, drugs awareness, personal safety, and other safety issues concerning senior citizens.
Workshops are held throughout the parish to reach senior citizens. Groups average around 250 during the workshops and 400 to 500 are at the TRIAD Christmas Party in December. After the workshops, guests are treated to free lunch with all the trimmings donated by the sheriff.
The workshop also includes door prizes from the sheriff, area merchants, and health care providers ranging from home decorations, personal items, to security equipment. The day is completed with games of bingo for more prizes. The grand prize is a check for $100 donated by St. Landry Crime Stoppers. The winner has to be 60 or older.
