At the recommendation of St. Landry Parish President Jessie Bellard, a tax property tax exemption for first responders was rejected by the Parish Council.
Bellard said allowing the exemption, which is a local option, would put the assessor in a difficult position.
“The definition is broad... pretty much anyone can be a first responder,” Bellard said.
