Two Church Point areas residents were arrested when a search warrant executed for stolen property turned up illegal drugs. according to a news release by St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.
The search warrant was executed on Aug. 7 at 503 Duplechin Road in the Church Point area by St. Landry Parish deputies and Duson Police officers.
Duson Police had an active arrest warrant for James Meche, the owner of the residence, for simple burglary.
During the initial search, detectives discovered marijuana and THC products within the residence, Guidroz stated.
Upon locating the illegal narcotics, Criminal Investigation Division detectives contacted St. Landry Parish narcotics detectives for assistance with furthering the narcotics portion of the investigation.
Narcotics detectives arrived on scene and contacted two suspects, Angelica McGuffin and Derrick Daigle, who were located when detectives initially executed the search warrant. Both suspects were advised of their Miranda Rights and interviewed on scene. They both denied any knowledge that the residence contained such a large amount of marijuana.
Guidroz reported that during a further search of the residence, detectives located the following:
— About 1 gram of suspected crystal methamphetamine;
— About a quarter gram of suspected heroin;
— 5,882 grams of marijuana equivalent to about 12.9 pounds;
— 50 bottles of THC liquid (assorted brands);
— 6 assorted packages containing THC gummies
— 2 bottles of anabolic steroids;
— 21 assorted THC vapes;
— 19 THC Rebel Chocolate Caramel chews; and
— $820.00 in U.S. currency.
The total value of all narcotics is estimated at about $121,650.
Daigle and McGuffin were arrested and transported to the St. Landry Parish Jail.
Daigle, 38, of Martin Luther King Jr. Highway, Church Point, was charged with possession with intent to distribute Schedule I CDS (marijuana).
McGuffin, 33, of the 503 Duplechin Road, Church Point, was charged with possession with intent to distribute schedule I CDS (marijuana) (5 Counts), possession of schedule III CDS (Anabolic Steroids), possession of schedule II CDS (crystal methamphetamine), possession of schedule I CDS (heroin), and transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses.
James Meche was not home at the time the search warrant was executed.
