A three-vehicle crash on U.S. 190 near Lakeshore Drive in St. Landry Parish claimed the life of 32-year-old Brandon Taylor of Port Barre.
Louisiana State Police Troop I troopers began investigating the wreck shortly before 2 a.m. Monday.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Taylor was driving a 2024 Toyota Camry east in the westbound lanes of U.S. 190. At the same time, a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado and a 2013 Freightliner truck were both traveling west. For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota collided head-on with the Chevrolet before being struck by the Freightliner.
All drivers were properly restrained. Taylor suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the Freightliner was uninjured in the crash.
As part of the ongoing investigation, a toxicology sample was obtained from Taylor and the driver of the Chevrolet and submitted for analysis. The driver of the Freightliner voluntarily provided a breath sample which showed no alcohol detected. This crash remains under investigation.
