Two men were arrested after deputies arrived for a training session in Opelousas only to smell marijuana.
St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s narcotics investigators were arriving on Tuesday at the Delta Grand to participate in agency-mandated training.
As the deputies exited their vehicles, they detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from a white Honda Accord with Texas license plates, stated the news release from Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.
“ They approached the driver, who was subsequently identified as Clarence Malveaux, a felon convicted of attempted manslaughter. As Malveaux was removed from the car, Narcotics investigators spotted a second individual in the rear right side passenger seat. Initially, this person refused to make his identity known, but eventually cooperated and provided his name, Djacqney Mitchell.”
Guidroz stated, “Upon conducting warrant checks, it was learned that Mitchell had outstanding warrants for the previously listed crimes. In addition, there were two firearms with high-capacity magazines found in the vehicle.”
Guidroz added, “This incident proves that no matter where our deputies are, whatever they may be involved in, they are constantly vigilant and ready to perform their duties. A dangerous wanted individual was safely taken into custody due to the actions of this experienced team of officers.”
Those arrested are:
