Broussard is also on the movie’s soundtrack, along with blues icons Eric Gales, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram and Bobby Rush.
According to an April 25 story by Entertainment Weekly, “Sinners” has been top-ranked movie in the country for two-straight weeks. It has grossed $161 million worldwide since its April 18 release.
The movie appearance adds to Broussard’s rich legacy in zydeco and Creole music. Born and raised in St. Landry Parish, Broussard follows in the footsteps of his legendary father, Delton Broussard, leader of the popular Lawtell Playboys band.
Jeffery grabbed the spotlight in the 1980s and ‘90s as leader of Zydeco Force, a highly-influential group that ushered in a contemporary sound in traditional zydeco.
Zydeco Force reigned as dancehall and TV stars, often featured on the landmark program, “Zydeco Extravaganza.” Fans flocked to the clubs to hear “Hey Madeline,” “On My Way,” “B-Flat” and other hits.
In recent years, Broussard has returned to his traditional roots with his Creole Cowboys band. “Bayou Moonlight,” Broussard’s debut album with the Nighttime Syndicate, a brass band from New Orleans, will be released May 23 on Fairground Records.
