Memorial Day ceremony in Eunice

The Memorial Day ceremony is held as a reminder to those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom, said VFW Post Commander 8971 Donnie Fontenot as he stood near the monument with those who died in service to the nation.
Fontenot, added, “These soldiers’ names read on the monuments all paid the sacrifice for you. Every morning when you wake up, you wake up to freedom. Freedom was not free, it was paid for with the lives of these people. That fight is not over. That fight happens everyday. You can be sure that there are men and women right now defending your rights; the right to gather, rights to have an opinion, a right to be at home, a right to gather without being hasseled. These things are taken for granted. In some countries it is not okay to speak your opinion. There are a lot of things we should be grateful for. They were paid for by these people with their life,” he said at the ceremony held at 6 p.m. Monday.
