A 65-year-old man was shot in an physical altercation in the 600 block of South Beulah Street on Sunday.
Eunice Police Chief Kyle LeBouef stated the wounded man was treated at a local medical facility for a non-life threatening injury to his left leg behind the knee. The victim is expected to fully recover from his injuries.
LeBouef reported that Desmond A Guillory, 35, of Eunice, is charged with attempted second-degree murder, illegal use of weapons, simple battery, obstruction of justice, and theft of a firearm.
Police were notified in multiple calls at about 11:15 p.m. of five to six gunshots and when they arrived at the scene they found the wounded male.
“It was later discovered that an argument had started at a residence amongst family members when a firearm was presented by a male subject. Witnesses state a physical altercation then took place between the subject with the firearm and another male family member,” he stated.
LeBouef reported witnesses stated the altercation between the two males was partially over the control of a firearm.
Witnesses stated they heard gunshots during the altercation, but were unsure of who fired the shots as both parties were fighting over the firearm, he said.
The firearm was given to a female who then fled the scene according to witnesses.
No firearm was located on the scene, however, officers recovered five spent 9mm casings near the area where the gunshot victim was found.
