The grand opening and launch of the Belly Buddies Community Fridge took place at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Tri Parish Electrical Supply.
This community fridge is opened to anyone in need at the location of Tri Parish Electrical Supply at 101 West Walnut.
Belly Buddies’ Executive Director and Founder Katie S. Richard, said, “This fridge is open to anyone in need of a little extra help, no questions asked. Community members and businesses are invited to contribute fresh food, packaged items, and drinks to help bless our neighbors.”
Richard explained how the Belly Buddies Community Fridge works, “Take what you need, no forms, no requirements, just kindness. Leave what you can, donate sealed or fresh, in-date foods. Examples, may be lunch meat, fruit, yogurt, frozen meals, etc.”
Donation suggestions and examples include fresh and refrigerated items, fresh fruits and vegetables (apples, carrots, lettuce), eggs, milk, cheese, butter or yogurt, deli meats (sealed and within date), bottled water or juice, ready to eat meals. Shelf staple items: canned goods, soups, beans, vegetables, tuna, etc., peanut butter, jelly or spreads, rice, pasta, or instant noodles, boxed meals, or mac and cheese, baby food and formula (sealed and in-date).
Please avoid donating expired or opened food, home cooked leftovers, unlabeled or unsealed containers.
Richard asked the community to spread the word. She added, “The more we share, the more full the fridge stays.” She added, “A huge thank you to Tri Parish Electrical Supply for generously donating both the refrigerator and the space to make this project possible. Your kindness and partnership are helping feed hearts and bellies all across the community.”
Richard added, “Let’s make Eunice a place where no one goes hungry, because together, we are Belly Buddies!”
