Investigators are asking for the public's assistance in solving a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a man found inside a pickup truck on Vivian Avenue on Sunday.
According to detectives featured in this week's St. Landry Crime Stoppers segment, officers with the Eunice Police Department responded to reports of gunfire around 9 p.m. on Sunday, May 31 in the area of 1040 Vivian Avenue.
The first officer to arrive at the scene discovered a victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside a pickup truck. The officer immediately began administering life-saving aid, but the victim later succumbed to his injuries.
Because the shooting occurred just outside the Eunice city limits, the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office was notified and joined the investigation.
The Sheriff's Office further reported that investigators located a large number of spent shell casings at the scene, indicating an extensive exchange of gunfire. Authorities believe the shooting was a targeted attack.
"Video surveillance from the area has provided some indications of what exactly happened," Thompson said during the Crime Stoppers presentation. "But more information is needed."
The homicide remains under investigation by the Eunice Police Department and the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office.
Investigators are urging anyone with information about the shooting or the individuals involved to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously through St. Landry Crime Stoppers by calling 948-TIPS (8477), using the Crime Stoppers P3 app, or scanning the QR code featured in the Crime Stoppers broadcast.
Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information that leads to an arrest in the case.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact authorities as the investigation continues.
