EUNICE~It is with heavy hearts that the family of Accordion King, Andrew Cormier, Sr. announces his passing on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Acadian Medical Center in Eunice at the age of 82.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Eunice. Burial will follow in the Ashford Cemetery with Msgr Robert Romero Celebrant.
Andrew was a Freight Truck driver for over 40 years as well as a Louisiana legend and a treasure in the traditional Cajun French Music world.
He played his first dance at the age of 13 in Lewisburg and he played for President Lyndon B. Johnson at the Kennedy Center in 1968.
Andrew Cormier and the Rambling Aces brought the Cajun scene to the Golden Triangle. He played at the Rodair Club in Port Acres from 1962 to 1999.
He was known best for his hit records, “Creole Stomp” and “Chataignier Waltz”.
He will be missed by many who knew and loved him. Left to cherish his memories are his six children; three sons, Andrew Cormier, Jr. and wife, Susan of Houston, Curtis Cormier and wife, Lisa and Chris Cormier and wife, Rebecca both of Duralde; three daughters, June Sonnier and husband, Toby of Orange, TX, Liz Carrier and husband, Paul of Duralde and Shelley Carrier and husband, Billy of Eunice; a brother, Nolan Cormier and wife, Glenda of Church Point; two sisters, Janel LaVergne of Church Point and Della Charles and husband, Raymond of Beaumont, TX; thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren; as well as extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clebert and Marie Boudreaux Cormier; three children, Craig Cormier, Michael Dwayne Cormier and Cynthia Marie Cormier; siblings, Nettic Hebert, Judy Ardoin and Merlin Cormier.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice on Monday, June 3 from 2:00 pm until 10:00 pm and again on Tuesday, June 4 from 8:00 am until time of services. Deacon Jim Cormier will recite a Rosary at 6:30 pm on Monday.
