A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, August 13, 2021 at 2 p.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for Dr. Charles Richard Bier, 86, who died Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at 4 p.m. surrounded by his loving family.
Fr. Brent Smith, Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church-Rayne, will officiate for the services. The family requests visiting hours Friday from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Dr. Bier was a native and longtime resident of Crowley. He graduated Crowley High School. He was a registered pharmacist who later became a professor of English at LSUE where he taught for 33 years and retired as professor emeritus in 2003. He was a veteran of the US Army and will be provided military honors by Ft. Polk.
“Dickey” is survived by his wife of 51 years, Margaret Castle Bier of Crowley; one daughter, Meg Bier Heidtman of Crowley; three sons, Charles Richard Bier, Jr. and Stuart Walter Bier both of Crowley, David Lawrence Bier and his wife Hallie of The Woodlands, TX; 10 grandchildren, Kayla Renee Washington, Bradley Dean Washington, Garrett Richard Heath, Jr., William Charles Heath, Lily Margaret Heidtman, Thomas Walter Bier, Graden Charles Bier, Matthew David Bier, Emily Dean Bier, and Lucas Kurt Bier.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Clifton Bier, Jr. and Dorothy Caillouet Bier.
