A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, Nov. 21, at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Hilliard J. “Sonnie” Trahan Sr., 90, who died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, at 10:52 a.m. at Encore Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Crowley.
Mr. Trahan was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II and U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
He retired from the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Department with 22 years of service. In his retirement years, “Sonnie” enjoyed crawfishing and working with local farmers.
Fr. Jason Vidrine, pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary, officiated for the services.
The family requested visiting hours Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. A rosary was recited Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial was in Abshire Cemetery.
Mr. “Sonnie” is survived by two daughters, Tina T. Villata and husband Richard of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Gladys T. Boyd and husband Brett of Lafayette; four sons, Kenneth “Boo” Trahan and wife Joan of Kaplan, Hilliard “Bubba” Trahan Jr. of Lafayette, Clanson Trahan and wife Laurie of Houma, and Johnny Trahan of Florida; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Joy Lee Suire Trahan and Mary Mendoza Trahan; one daughter, Yvonne T. Brazell; his parents, Clanson and Gladys Gary Trahan; one brother, Boyce James “Jim” Trahan.
