VILLE PLATTE – Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Ville Platte on Monday, January 20, 2020 for Hubert Belleau, 91, who passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2020 in Chataignier.
Deacon Chuck Ortego will conduct funeral services.
Burial will take place in the Evangeline Memorial Park Cemetery.
Hubert Belleau was born in St. Landry Parish on August 25, 1928 to Edvol and Nita Belleau. He was a lifetime resident of Chataignier where he enjoyed taking an active role in his community. Hubert held the positions of councilman and mayor for the Village of Chataignier. He was also a volunteer fireman and was later made fire chief. Hubert worked for the Village of Chataignier Water System and the Eunice Gravity Drainage District 9. He was a mechanic and welder by trade and owned and operated Belleau Repair Shop. When not working and volunteering, Hubert enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his favorite thing to do was to work in his garden. His homegrown tomatoes, watermelons and cantaloupes were the produce he was most proud of. He spent many hours taking care of his garden and enjoyed hand watering the tender vegetation. One reason he enjoyed gardening was being able to share his crop with family and friends. This kindhearted, friendly gentlemen will be greatly missed by many; including those looking forward to his friendly wave as he sat on his front porch and watched the traffic.
Hubert is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Carrie Doucet Belleau; two sons, Glenn Belleau and Paul Belleau; one daughter Cindy Briley and husband, Ted; one sister, Eleanor Duplechain; six grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edvol and Nita Belleau; two brothers, Allen and Ervin Belleau; and one grandson, Casey Briley.
