Isom Joseph “Jay” Guillory III passed away Monday, March 2, 2020 in Sherman, Texas at the age of 69 years. He was born on December 7, 1950 in New Orleans to Isom Joseph Guillory Jr. and Anabelle (Cannon) Guillory.
Jay graduated from Eunice High School in 1968. After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps and completed training at Camp Pendleton. He was a scout sniper in the United States Marine Corps where he served in Vietnam War. He received numerous medals and commendations including two purple hearts for wounds sustained from gunfire and grenade shrapnel. In addition, he also received the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with palm and frame, the Vietnam Campaign with device and the Rifle Expert Badge. He later received an honorable discharge from the USMC.
After returning home, Jay attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University where he obtained a bachelor of science degree in Aviation and Masters in Administrative studies. He married Gayla (Gordon) Guillory in 1975, in which they had three children and were married the next 36 years. In addition, he graduated from Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, OK, with a degree in Airframe and Powerplant Mechanics. For the majority of his life, he worked as a certified public accountant specializing in Petroleum and Natural Gas Joint Venture audits.
Hobbies included hunting (deer, elk, dove and duck), fishing, trapshooting, archery and spending time with his beloved grandchildren whom he loved dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents Isom J. Guillory Jr. and Annabelle Cannon Guillory, and one sister Jan Guillory Smith.
Survivors include his children Kelli Fesperman and husband Cory of Sherman, TX; Preston Guillory and wife Cristina of San Francisco, CA; and Krista Ribera and husband Christopher of Durant, OK; grandchildren Ean Ostman, Jamie Guillory, Robin Guillory, Kaitlyn Ribera, Khloe Ribera, Christian Ribera, and Kimber Ribera; brother Dr. Clint Guillory of Monroe, LA; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family and dear friends.
The family will honor his wishes and bury his ashes at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. so that he may join his fellow Marine Corps veterans.
