Keith Joseph Mayeux, age 65, of Hoover, Alabama passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, May 28, 2019. He was greeted in Heaven by those who passed before him – his father Reginald Paul Mayeux; his sister Mary Mayeux; and his sweet grandson Thomas Bates.
Affectionately known as “Joe”, “Papa Joe”, and even “Pastor Joe”, he is survived by his beloved wife Sharon Burroughs Mayeux; his daughters Olivia Koch (Andrew), Aimee Arp (Ryan), and Amanda Bates (Alan); his sons Martin Mayeux (Kristi) and Adam Cummings (Kelsie); his mother Sylvia Mayeux; his brothers Johnny Mayeux (Pam), Bill Mayeux, Jim Mayeux, Paul Garrett Mayeux, Peter Mayeux, and Clay Mayeux; his sisters Donna Mayeux (Tony) and Camille Bercier; his grandchildren Caroline Koch, Sylvia Koch, Oliver Koch, Hudson Arp, June Arp, Madeline Arp, Monroe Mayeux, Wyatt Mayeux, Ruby Mayeux, Addison Cummings, Kenslee Cummings, Asher Cummings, Ezra Cummings, Annie Bates, and Alice Bates; as well as countless friends and lives he touched with his love.
Joe was born in Eunice, Louisiana on March 30, 1954. He moved to Alabama in 1985 with his family. Joe worked for BellSouth and later Accenture for over 20 years in Software Development. In 2005, Joe and his wife Sharon formed New Life Ministries and have been devoted to strengthening marriages and families ever since. Joe had a deep love for all people. He was a prayer warrior and a strong intercessor. Joe served many as a spiritual father and the impact he made on so many lives cannot be fully comprehended. He had a gentle spirit, was kind and caring, consistent and wise. Joe was a graduate of the University of Southern Louisiana. He was a member of Covenant Heirs International and Metropolitan Church of God. Joe was ordained by his mentor and friend, Pastor Steve Franklin of Covenant Heirs. In his pastime, Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. This special man will be missed by so many.
Visitation will be held Saturday, June 1 from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Metropolitan Church of God, 2800 Metropolitan Way, Birmingham, AL 35243. A Celebration of the Life and Legacy of Joe Mayeux will follow at 12:00 PM officiated by Pastor Steve Franklin.
