Kenneth Wayne Dexter, a resident of Sugarland, Texas and native of Eunice, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday Feb. 5, 2019 at the age of 68.
He is survived by his mother Bonnie Jane (Smith) Dexter; special friend Mark Abshire of Sugarland, Texas; brother in law, Willard Sonnier; nieces and nephews, Angie Sasser and husband Jon, Michael Sonnier and wife Monica, Tammie Lejeune and husband Kirk, and Kevin Sonnier; eight great nieces and nephews; and nine great-great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Dexter; his sister, Linda Dexter Sonnier; and brother, Donald Keith Dexter.
A Memorial service will be held at Indian Mound Baptist Church on March 9, 2019 at 11 am followed by a private grave site service at Bethel United Methodist cemetery.
Kenneth attended LSU-E in 1970 before joining the US Army and was deployed to Vietnam. While in Vietnam, he was in the 101st Airborne Division and a AH-1 Cobra Helicopter crew chief from 1970-1973 and was an aide to General Robert Koch, Deputy Chief of Staff US Army. He received a Bronze Star.
After Vietnam, he attended Cameron University in Oklahoma.
After college, he sold high end sports cars such as Porsche, Audi, and Maserati’s. He was also a well-known concealed handgun instructor in the Houston area. His other hobby’s included golf, disc golf, photography, gardening, coin collecting, motorbikes, bird watching, and he was an avid pet lover.
His big booming voice and laugh will be missed by all that knew him.
