Leroy Jean Batiste Vige passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at the age of 89.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018, at 11:00 AM. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Eunice. Msgr. Robert Romero will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Paul Mausoleum. Deacon Gary Gaudin will officiate.
At the request of the family visitation will begin on Thursday August 9, 2018 at 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Quirk and Son Funeral Home in Eunice and will reopen on Friday at 8:00 AM until time of services. A rosary will be prayed on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 6:00PM. Deacon Gary Gaudin will officiate.
Leroy is survived by his daughter, Katherine Fruge, one brother, Glenn Vige and Vicki, two granddaughters; Toni Fruge Powley and Tim, Becky Fruge, two great granddaughters; Chez Hodgson and Bob, Olivia Adamson, two great -great grandsons; Dawson and Hayden Hodgson, three nieces Bobbi Renee Vige, Crystal Vige LeJeune, Brandy Vige, one nephew, Jason Vige.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Aurelia Janice Vige, one step-mother, Vivian Manuel Vige, his wife, Thelma Jacobs Vige, four brothers; Nelson Vige, Wilson Vige, Wesley Vige and wife Denise Leger Vige, Bruce Vige and wife Judy Richard Vige, one niece, Connie Landreneau, one nephew, Kenneth Vige, one godson, Ernie Vige and wife Betty, one goddaughter, Beverly Jacobs, one son in law, James Merlin Fruge.
Leroy was a dedicated farm hand, working in the fields for several farmers pulling weeds. He was a Merchant Marine from December 31, 1941 through December 31, 1946. At some time during this time the Coast Guard took them over. Upon retiring his service he became a car salesman in Port Arthur, Texas and returned to Eunice to start work in the oilfield.
