EUNICE~It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of Madeleine Reed Montelaro announces her passing on Monday, December 24, 2018 with loving family by her side in the comfort of her home. She was 75.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, December 28, 2018 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Eunice. Entombment will follow in the St. Paul Mausoleum with Father Tom Voorhies, Celebrant and Father Tom Montelaro, Con-Celebrant.
Madeleine was a Professor of Chemistry at LSUE for 30 years. She was a member of the original staff at LSUE and served as Dean of Sciences towards the end of her term. Madeleine was a graduate of St. Edmund High School and briefly taught there for a year.
She attended the Dominican College in New Orleans and accomplished her master’s degree at USL in Lafayette. Madeline was very active in the Right to Life movement and was known for her dedication to her God, family, friends, students and career.
She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend and will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her especially her husband of 55 years, James J. Montelaro of Eunice; sons, Gregory Montelaro of Houston, TX and Jody Montelaro and wife, Mollie of Baton Rouge; daughter, Phyllis Gremillion and husband, Jeff of Baton Rouge; brother, Lony Reed of Texas; eight grandchildren, Danielle, Michelle, Madeleine, Lauren, Brett, James Maxwell, Andrew, and Samuel; three great grandchildren, Aubrey, Reed, and Gracelyn; as well as extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lony and Avis Myers Reed; sister, Flo Soileau; and granddaughter, Ainsley.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice on Thursday, December 27th from 5:00 pm until 8:30 pm and again on Friday, December 28th, 2018 from 8:00 am until time of services. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Thursday.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Edmund High School, 230 N. 3rd Street, Eunice, LA 70535 in lieu of flowers.
