Mary Alajean “Jean” Sinegal, age 86, of Albia, Iowa, formerly of Louisiana, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2019 at the Monroe Care Center in Albia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 10:00 AM at St Mathilda Catholic Church in Eunice, Louisiana with Father Blaine Clement officiating. Burial will follow at St Mathilda Cemetery.
At the request of family, visitation will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019 from 8:00 AM until time of Services at Quirk and Son Funeral Home in Eunice.
Jean was born on January 4, 1933, in St Landry Parish in Eunice, Louisiana to Jeanbaptiste and Mary Cecelia (Monbru) Senegal. She grew up and attended school in Eunice. On October13, 1950, she married Johnberchmans Jeffrey Sinegal and to this union five children were born. Jean and Johnberchmans shared forty-six years of marriage prior to his passing on April 17, 1997. Jean has spent the last seventeen years with her dear friend,
Clarence “Freddie” Mose.
Jean was a homemaker and also helped with the daily chores on their chicken and racehorse farm. In addition to assisting with the day to day operations on the farm, she also sold her pies and BBQ at the horse track.
Jean enjoyed being outdoors, doing things such as gardening, fishing, and being on the farm. She loved traveling all over the United States. She was a talented baker, known for her sweet potato pies and fig pies. Her true joy in life was spending time with her family and friends and spoiling her grandchildren.
‘Jean is survived by two sons, Jeff Jr. (Ella) Sinegal, Clayton John Sinegal; one daughter, Andre’ (Billy) Fruge, two sisters-in-law, Beatrice Senegal and Mildred Senegal; eleven grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; fifteen great-great grandchildren; eight stepchildren, Clarence Mose, Jr., Celina (Thorton) Head, Shirleen (Bishop Levon) Thurman, Jerline (Bishop Billy) Sanders, Linda (Michael) Clark, Ernest (Rose) Mose, Clerance Mose Jr., Edward (Yolanda) Mose. Jean is also survive by many nieced, nephews, cousins and good friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jeanbaptiste and Mary Cecilia Senegal, her husband, Johnberchmans “Shorty” Sinegal Sr., a son, John Gerald Sinegal, a daughter, Louvella Sinegal; one grandson, Eric Sinegal; a daughter-in-law,Lillie Martin Sinegal; two great granddaughters, Sasha Citizen, Destiny Mongo; seven brothers, one in infancy, Josien Senegal, Joe Senegal, John Russell Senegal, Garland Senegal, Sr., Damus Senegal,Alvin Reed; three nephews, Anthony Senegal, Nolan Senegal, Lee Andrews Senegal; three nieces, Helen Senegal, Sara Senegal, Roberta Nealy; and her dear friend, Clarence “Freddie” Mose.
