BASILE~It is with the heaviest hearts and great sadness that the family of Maxie R. Smith announces her passing on Wednesday, May 01, 2019 at Oak Lane Wellness and Rehabilitation with her loving family by her side. She was 85. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, May 03, 2019 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Basile. Entombment will follow in the St. Augustine Mausoleum with Father Keenan Brown Celebrant.
Maxie worked in the food service department at LSUE for fifteen years. She loved to work in her yard with her flowers as well as fishing, camping, cooking and LSU Tigers. Maxie was well known for her coconut cake. But most of all she was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her especially her children, Diane Ardoin and husband, Mark; James "Dickie" Smith, Michael "Mike" Smith and wife, Sharon; Paul Craig Smith and wife, JoAnn; Denise S. Sonnier and daughter-in-law, Charlotte Smith all of Basile; her brother, Dale LaFleur and wife, Molly of Colmesneil, TX; her two sisters, Sue Warner and husband, Larry of Bridge City, TX and Etheline Sylvester and husband, Hank of Ville Platte; seventeen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren; as well as extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Smith; her son, Ivan Chris Smith; son-in-law, Johnny Sonnier; brother, John Durio; her sister, Helen Crochet and dear dear friends, John and Elaine Bellon.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Basile on Thursday, May 2nd from 3:00 pm until 10:00 pm and again on Friday, May 3rd from 7:00 am until time of services. Deacon Gary Gaudin will recite a Rosary at 7:00 pm on Thursday.
