EUNICE~It is with the heaviest of hearts and great sadness that the family of Robert H. "Bobby" Miller announces his passing on Friday, January 18, 2019 at The Road Home Therapy Center in Church Point with his loving family by his side. He was 88. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Eunice. Rite of Committal will follow in the Miller Cemetery with Father Henry Broussard Celebrant.
Robert, known to many as "Bobby" proudly served his country in the United States Navy Reserves as a diesel mechanic. He was a retired rice, soybean and crawfish farmer, avid hunter who served as president of the Atchafalaya Basin Association Hunting Club. He served on the Louisiana and United States Rice Producer's Legislative Group (The USA Rice Farmers), Louisiana Rice Research Board, St. Landry Farm Bureau Board, Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation Rice Advisory Committee as chairman and vice chairman, and two terms on the St. Landry Parish Police Jury. His actions demonstrated his commitment to serving his community and family. But most of all he loved his family. Bobby’s larger than life personality attracted all who knew and loved him; and was evident in the endearing name given to him by his grandchildren, “Boss Hog”. The Annual Miller Family Good Friday Fish Fry and Crawfish Boil was legendary around Eunice and beyond, and much anticipated each year by family and friends.
He is survived by his five children, Robert H. Robby Miller, Jr. of Eunice, Jeanie Miller Robinson of West Monroe, Matt Miller and wife, Debbie of Eunice, Mary Miller Hebert and husband, Jeffery of Baton Rouge and Monica Miller Salopek and husband, Steve of Lafayette; his four siblings Dr. A.C. Miller and Theresa Miller Seale both of Eunice, Beverly Miller Longman and husband, Douglas of Maurice and Harris James Miller of Cody, Wyoming. He was blessed with twelve grandchildren, Rob, Mark, Mitch, and April Miller, Rod and Ryan Robinson, Benjie and Andre Miller, Jeff Hebert, Stephen, Claire, and Sophie Salopek and further blessed with eight great grandchildren, Syrus, Jackson and Gunner Miller, Bricen, Reid and Graham Robinson, Slade Miller and A. J. Hebert. He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
He now rests in heaven with his beloved wife of fifty nine years, Norma Jean McManus Miller; his parents, Alexandre and Ola Young Miller and a brother, Joseph G. Miller.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Eunice on Monday, January 21st from 3:00pm until 9:00 pm and again on Tuesday, January 22nd from 7:00 am until time of services. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Monday.
The family would like to express great appreciation for the love, care and thoughtfulness given to their father, Eunice Community Medical Center, LGMC Pulmonary Care Unit, The Road Home Therapy Center in Church Point. Sincere thanks to Dannell Trumps and Elizabeth Benton. A special thanks to his son-in-law, Dr. Stephen Salopek.
