EUNICE- It is with heavy hearts that the family of Royne H. Fontenot announces his passing on the morning of Sunday, January 27, 2019 at his home with loving family by his side. He was 98. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10:00 am on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Eunice. Interment will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Father Matthew Hebert, Celebrant.
Royne was a veteran of the United States Army, proudly serving in WWII in the 96th Infantry as an Expert Carbine. He achieve many medals during his service to his country including the American Theater Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Stars and 1 Bronze Arrowhead, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and a Meritorius Unit Award. He was a member of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the National Weather Service, the Violin Makers Association of Arizona, and the Catgut Acoustical Society. Royne was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and was one of the founding members of the VFW in Eunice. He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him, especially by his sons, Darwin Fontenot and wife, Connie of Russellville, AR, Anthony Fontenot and wife, Caron of San Antonio, TX, and Gary Fontenot and wife, Andre’e of Fort Worth, TX; daughter, Karan Fontenot Huddleston and husband, Bruce of Ada, OK; nine grandchildren, Jeffrey Fontenot, Carey Buckner, Matthew Fontenot, Patrick Fontenot, Lauren Fontenot, Tracy McMahan, Amy Barrett, Victor Fontenot, and Vera Fontenot; ten great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Sally Ann Fuselier Fontenot; parents, Ernest and Aza Manuel Fontenot; and brothers, Polan and Herbert Fontenot.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice on Wednesday, January 30th from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and again on Thursday, January 31st from 8:00 am until time of services. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm Wednesday by Deacon Gary Gaudin.
