MAMOU – Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou on Saturday, July 18, 2020 for Ruth Deshotels Ardoin, 89, who passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 in Mamou, Louisiana.
Father Billy Massie will be celebrant of the Mass and will conduct funeral services.
Burial will take place in the new St. Ann’s Cemetery.
Ruth Deshotels Ardoin, a lifelong resident of Mamou, was born on January 18, 1931 to Aviton and Atile Deshotels.
During her lifetime she was a devout Catholic and member of the ladies Alter Society and Catholic Daughters of America. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxillary and the Woodmen of the World where she held several officer positions and became Woodman of the Year.
She was also selected as Woman of the Year for the City of Mamou. She loved, attended, and was a dedicated sports “fan” in the City of Mamou and for Mamou High School where she was a member of the Mamou High School Booster Club.
She was a Legal Secretary for 32 years and a Court Reporter for 25 years. She had many accomplishments in her lifetime. Ruth was a member of the Legal Secretaries of Evangeline Parish and the Legal Secretaries of the State of Louisiana. She was selected Legal Secretary of the Year for both the Parish and the State and she held officer positions for both the parish and state. Her latest accomplishment was that she was selected to the Council on Aging Board.
Ruth is survived by her son, Wendell Ardoin and wife Carmen; son-in-law, Phillip Bordelon; her grandchildren, Claude Bordelon, Joshua Bordelon, Eve Bordelon, Luke Bordelon and wife Tanya, Lucas Bordelon and wife Haley, Keli Williams and husband Chad, Kevin Ardoin and wife Lauren, Claire Ardoin, and Conner Ardoin. She had 13 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Aviton and Atile Deshotels; her husband, Lee Rayne ”Papon” Ardoin; her daughter, Stephanie Bordelon; her brother, Mike Deshotels; and great grandchild, Peyton Ardoin.
At the request of the family, visitation will be observed at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Mamou on Saturday, July 18, 2020 from 9 a.m. until time of service. A rosary will be recited on Saturday at 10 a.m.
