Eunice-It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Shirley Ray LaVergne announces his passing on Friday, October 1, 2021, in the comfort of his home with loving family by his side. He was 83. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Eunice. Burial followed in the St. Thomas More Cemetery with Father Sensat, Celebrant.
Shirley served his country proudly in the United State Army and graduated from Military and was in the top ten of his class in communications. Shirley will be forever remembered by his wife of forty-seven years, Ethel LaVergne of Pa-Ta-Sa and their precious children, David Ray LaVergne and wife, Pamela, Sandra Colligan, Donna Fontenot and husband, Anthony Fontenot, Sr and Cynthia LeJeune and husband David all of Eunice. He will also be forever remembered by the nine joys of his life, his grandchildren, Toby Darbonne, Ashley Steinfeldt, Lacey Colligan, Anthony Fontenot, Jr. Jody Ray Fontenot, Kyle Fontenot, Cody Bruton, Joseph Bruton and Daniel Bruton: nineteen great grandchildren as well as extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Amy Aline Fontenot; great granddaughter, Carly Christ; brother, Vernice and Linus LaVergne; sisters, Verna Mae, Alice and Alisha LaVergne.
At the request of the family, visitation was held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice on Friday, October 1 from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. and again on Saturday, October 2 from 8 a.m. until time of services. Deacon Chuck Ortego led a Rosary at 7 p.m. on Friday.
