Sibyl Stark Young of Pearland, Texas passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, January 5, 2022 at the age of 99. Sibyl was born August 20, 1922 at home in rural Acadia Parish Louisiana. She lived a long life dedicated to her passion to be of service for her Lord, family, and friends.
She was predeceased in death by her beloved husband of 63 years Lloyd Young, her infant son Lloyd Nathan Young (Beau), her grandson Jacob Austin Comeaux, her parents Joel and Castella Stark, three sisters, one brother, eight sisters in law, and nine brothers in law.
She is survived by her son Joel Vance Young (J.V.), daughter Cynthia Ann Comeaux (Cindy) and husband Gary, grandchildren Addi Comeaux, Sara Comeaux, and Jessica Fallon Young, great grandchildren Thomas Austin Behymer and Emma Jean Behymer, brother in law and sister Robert and Gloria Cline, sisters in law, Betty Young and Delores Young, along with many beloved nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, great great nephews, and great great nieces.
Sibyl loved her Lord and was a faithful servant for Him. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Eunice, Louisiana for 43 years where she served her church in many capacities as a long-term Sunday School Teacher and Director, Director of Vacation Bible School, Member of the Church Building Committee, Pastor Search Committee, Leader of Girl's Auxiliary, Finance Committee Member, active supporter for the church annex, active involvement with the bus ministry, many trips to Glorieta New Mexico and Ridgecrest North Carolina, supporter of the Maxi Mission, and Leonville Mission. Sibyl also served as State President of the Louisiana Baptist Women Missionary Union (WMU), and was an avid supporter of the Home, State and Foreign Missions as well as the local Acadian Baptist Center in Eunice.
In 1991, her membership moved to University Baptist Church (Charter Member) where she served on various committees of which she served for 15 years. In 1992 Sibyl helped organize the Baptist Women (WMU) to which she served as the Director. University Baptist continued to grow and Sibyl was the Director of their first Vacation Bible School.
As a homemaker, Sibyl was an excellent cook providing meals for family, friends, and the many people that her children popped in with when traveling through Eunice. She was loved and adored by many.
Sibyl was a world traveler and ensured that family enjoyed summer vacation travels. She and Lloyd continued traveling with friends, brother, sisters, brothers and sisters in laws to many locations in the United States as well as international travel. She and Lloyd also took many trips with their grandchildren which they thoroughly enjoyed. She loved to share those experiences with all that would listen.
Visitation will be Friday, February 11 from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. at University Baptist Church and Saturday, February 12 at 10 a.m. until services at 1:30 p.m. at University Baptist Church, Eunice, LA and will be officiated by her nephew, David West. All under the directorship of Quirk and Son Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Ervin Ritter, Carl Stark, Robert West, Shane Young, Jimmy Young with honorary pallbearers Thomas Austin Behymer, Emma Jean Behymer, Jack McReynolds, Stephen Stark, Joey Stark, Jack Walker, and Mike Wilkinson.
The family would like to especially thank the staff of Trinity Oaks of Pearland Retirement Center, for their loving and compassionate care of 16 years.
