Willie Holmes Jr, affectionately known as “Crip” departed this life in the early morning of Friday, November 13, 2020. He was 84 years old and spent the greater part of his life as a resident of Eunice.
Willie was a cement finisher and for many years, he traveled daily to work in the Baton Rouge area. He retired from J.E. Merit Construction Co.
He and wife Leona Holmes were members of Golden Star Baptist Church in Eunice. In his latter years, he moved to Lake Charles, to be closer to family.
He became a member of New Covenant Faith Baptist Church of Lake Charles. Willie can be described as a family man, outdoorsman, hard worker, praying man who helped many along the way. He had lots of character, loved making people laugh, and was a devoted father who adored the grandkids.
Willie is preceded in death by his beautiful gentle wife of 49 years Leona Holmes, parents Sarah and Willie Holmes, his adopted mother Louise Jones, one sister Julia Valarie, and four brothers Leroy, Dan, Preston, and Manuel Holmes.
He leaves to cherish two daughters Marie Kinsey of Houston, Texas; Pauline (Bruce) Hal of Lake Charles; one son Willie (Connie) Holmes also of Lake Charles, 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grand children and a host of wonderful nieces, nephews, relatives and friends
Funeral Service will be Saturday, November 21, 2020 10 a.m. at New Covenant Faith Baptist Church in Lake Charles. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery in Eunice, under the direction of Stevens’ Funeral Home. Visitation will be at 8 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2020.
