15th Annual Taster's Choice

The 15th annual Taster’s Choice was held from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Mumphrey Center on LSUE campus.
A large crowd attended the fundraiser. The public had the opportunity and pleasure of tasting different varieties of food, enjoy live music, and bid on a silent and live auction. This event is the biggest fundraiser for and benefitting the Eunice Community Health Center.
There were different samplings of foods offered by different cooks at each booth. There were about 26 cooking teams in categories of Professional and Amateur divisions offering dishes such as general entrees, seafood, wild game, and desserts. People had the opportunity to vote on their favorite food from designated categories.
Geno Delafose & French Rockin Boogie provided entertainment.
Winners were announced later in the evening. They included, in Professional, General Entree (Lasagna Soup) Love Bonez; Appetizer Poppa Jeaux’s with a sausage appetizer; Dessert (Chantilly Cake, Lemon Raspberry Cake, and Banana Cake), Jacqueline Cakes; Seafood (Crawfish Boil Soup), Coushatta; A Spirit Award went to Coushatta. The People Choice Award went to Ardoin’s Sausage Kitchen. A Lagniappe Award went to Pop’s for Pepper Jelly. The Amateur Division winners were in Seafood category; Oneok, Inc. for Alligator Chili; A Spirit Award went to Lake View; for a General Entree the award went to Big Poppa’s Cajunsmoke Meat; the Dessert winner was Mama Greg’s Mardi Gras Mombo M&M Chocolate Chip cookies; The People’s Choice went to Hannah Matte Cakes; the Appetizer Award went to LakeView for it’s Boudin Bread; and Go Deaux Team took home the Wild Game Award with its Deer & Wild Pork Chili.
All proceeds from the cooking event will go to the Eunice Community Health Center.
The health center is vital to the Eunice community as it serves and provides under insured and no insured prescriptions. The clinic is located at 450 Moosa Blvd. Suite E in Eunice.
