Chevron’s Gulf of Mexico business unit is partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank and LSU Eunice in St. Landry Parish to distribute food before the holidays to about 200 families who are struggling with food insecurity.
The distribution event is the latest collaboration between Chevron and Second Harvest Food Bank. To date, Chevron has provided more than $2 million to support the food bank’s mission to fight hunger. Over more than a decade, Chevron team members have also donated thousands of volunteer hours to help pack and distribute food to those in need.
“This latest contribution by Chevron will help many families in areas where food insecurity is most acute,” said Second Harvest President and CEO Natalie Jayroe. “Chevron not only supports us financially, but their employees also become personally involved, roll up their sleeves, and help us get the food to those who need it most. We thank them for their partnership and for the millions of meals they’ve provided over the years.”
One out of seven people in South Louisiana faces food insecurity. Food insecurity is defined as a lack of consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life and is due mainly to limited financial resources.
During these difficult economic times, with inflation impacting every household budget, people are unable buy enough groceries to feed their families, which in turn increases the number of food insecure households. This is one of numerous initiatives Second Harvest Food Bank and Chevron have partnered on to help those in need.
