Lessons learned at 21st Century. Brielle Prudhomme, left, and Andrewnika Cooley learned a lesson from the novel, “Mr. Popper’s Penguins,” during June’s 21st Century Summer Learning Camp held at Glendale Elementary. Their Teacher is Erica Godfrey. Applications for the fall’s Century tutoring program will be available at Glendale’s office in August.
Thankfulness at FUMC VBS. John Michael Fruge, 6, is thankful for his dog Ella, and much more, as he participates in First United Methodist Vacation Bible School’s crafts. The VBS themed, “Inside Out & Upside Down on Main Street where Jesus makes a difference everyday,” was held last week for children ages 3 through 12.
John Ross Johnson earned the win on the mound in the Oiler’s 7-3 win over Minden.

All-Stars finish third in national tourney. The Eunice 8-Under (Coach Pitch) Softball All Star team competed in the 2011 National Slow Pitch PONY Tournament held in Crowley July 15-16. The team placed third, only losing to the first and second place teams. Team includes, in front from left, Lauren Rasmussen, Jaedyn Soileau, Leyton Pierrotti, Karleigh Soileau, Kinsley Marcantel, McKenzie Guillory, Alli Sittig, and Emily Johnson. Eunice High All-American Cheerleaders. This past June while attending SCA Beach Camp in SanDestin, Florida, nine Eunice High Varsity Cheerleaders were named All-American cheerleaders. Lindsey Arnaud, Autumn Brown, Skilynn Fontenot, Alayna Hebert, Emily O’Neil and Jeremy Reed were granted the opportunity to attend and perform at half time at the Capital One Bowl in Orlando in January. Landry named new Central Middle principal. Renolviaun Landry was named principal of Central Middle School during the St. Landry Parish School Board meeting Thursday.
Firefighters donate supplies to schools. Professional Firefighters Local 1745 members show some of the $600 worth of classroom supplies the local is giving Eunice schools this fall. The money came from membership dues and a $50 gift card from Walmart. From left are Garrett Daville, Capt. Sam Andrus, Nick Darbonne and Brett Fontenot.
Friends donate globe to library. The Opelousas-Eunice Friends of the Library donated a Nystrom Interactive Readiness Globe to the Eunice Public Library’s children’s section, after the library staff informed the Friends of their need. Exploring Australia at Eunice library. Story Time hour at the Eunice Public Library Wednesday had Angela Huckaby as the guest reader. The theme of the hour was “Explore Australia.” Huckaby read, “I Love it When You Smile.” Kids received Kangaroo coloring sheets and toy boomerang candy and won tote bags as door prizes.
St. Ed students go back to school. First day for St. Edmund Catholic School students was Tuesday with an early dismissal at noon.
