Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Eunice treated first responders to a free barbecue plate lunch Thursday from 11 until 1 p.m. in remembrance of the Sept. 11, 2001 response to the terrorist attack on the United States.
Ardoin’s head cooks at the barbecue pitt included Mayor Scott Fontenot, Ernie Deloach, and Steven Richard. Two hundred fifty dinners were prepared. Richard said that over 160 Ardoin’s Funeral Homes across the United States were doing lunches for first responders. Volunteers at Ardoin’s preparing and serving food included Bill Wimberly, Alicia LaGrone, Chrissie Menard, Elaine Deville, Harlynn Hackney, Rachel Fontenot, Carolyn Aucoin, Donna Richard, Leanna Belfour, and Karen Finley.
A short ceremony was held in front of a fire truck with its raised ladder extending the American Flag. The Rev. Andrew Bates of First Baptist Church gave an invocation and Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot along with Eunice Police Chief Kyle LeBouef, Eunice City Marshal Terry Darbonne, and Eunice Fire Chief Chaise Brown extended a few words of thanksgiving, dedication, encouragement, and gratefulness to all of their fellow first responders.
