An inauguration for St. Landry Parish’s recently elected officials was held at 9:30 a.m. Monday inside the Delta Grand Theater in Opelousas.
The event honored and formally inaugurated the Parish President, Jessie Bellard along with officials elected in October.
Those officials inaugurated and took the Oath of Office under Judge James T. Genovese included Parish Council members Jody White, Nancy A. Carriere, Faltery Jolivette, Mildred D. Thierry, Harold L. Taylor, Ken Marks, Alvin J. Stelly, Vivian S. Olivier, Wayne Ardoin, Dexter Q. Brown, Timmy G. LeJeune, Jimmie E. Edwards and Ernest Blanchard.
Due to severe weather predictions, Judge Genovese performed the Oath of Office as a group, not individually, to save time, and to allow the public to exit.
The order of ceremonies included Van Reed as Master of Ceremony, presentation of colors, the Pledge of Allegiance by Candace Roberts, director of human resources for St. Landry Parish, the National Anthem sung by Kari Sylvester, 11, from Washington. The Oath of Office was performed by Judge James T. Genovese. The guest speaker was Milton Batiste Superintendent of St. Landry Parish School Board and an Inauguration message delivered by Jessie Bellard, parish president.
