Veterans Day was recognized by the VFW Post 8971 Monday with an outdoor ceremony. Many veterans, along with the public, were in attendance.
The VFW Post 8971 Commander Donnie Fontenot was the emcee. Fontenot thanked all veterans for their service. David Crader, the American Legion Post 129 Commander was recognized for his service in the military.
The Girl Scout Troop 1016 Kallie Bakka and Ava Ortego helped with the raising of the flag and the proper disposal procedures of a flag. Bob Witkovski, VFW Quartermaster, assisted the troop.
Mayor Scott Fontenot expressed a few words to the veterans, commending all of them for their service for our country. He added that Veterans Day should occur everyday...thanking men and women for their selflessness service serving and defending our country.
