State Fire Marshal deputies continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding a mobile home fire that claimed the life of the sole occupant.
Just before 11:30 p.m. Sunday, the Ward 5 Fire Protection District responded to a mobile home fire in the 5500 block of St. Landry Highway in the Ville Platte area, near Bayou Chicot.
Firefighters located a body in the structure’s living room area while attempting to put the fire out. The body was too badly burned to even determine gender, however, it is believed to be the 54-year-old female homeowner. Official identification and preliminary cause of death are pending with the Evangeline Parish Coroner’s Office.
After assessing the scene, investigators determined the fire originated in the home’s living room area. At this time the exact cause of the fire is undetermined.
