A 5-year-old child running to a school bus about 8 a.m. Tuesday was injured when he was struck by pickup truck, Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said.
The child was late and darted into traffic on Maple, Fontenot said.
The pickup truck driver was eastbound and glare prevented him from seeing the child until it was too late, he said.
The child walked to the stretcher and was taken to Acadian Medical Center, he said.
Fontenot said Wednesday morning that he did not know the child’s medical condition, but did learn the child had been flown to another hospital.
It was first incident of its kind related to schools this year, he said.
He advised parents to talk to their children about being careful around traffic.
“Be sure to stop and look and not be in too big of a hurry,” he said.
