The Crowley Police Department has purchased a tool that will help them feel confident in case one of them is ever faced with an injury threatening their lives.
Last week, Crowley Police Chief Jimmy Broussard introduced a safety tourniquet to his men as well as the public. The tourniquet comes in a small plastic wrap. If a police officer were to get shot in the arm, for example, he would simply get the tourniquet out of the package, wrap the tourniquet around his upper arm and the tourniquet will stop the blood that is flowing into and out of the arm.
The tourniquet is ideally suited for penetrating trauma wounds. It has a narrow dressing width which allows for easy, rapid application. It has a comprehensive matrix of hemostatic clotting fibers that work synergistically to accelerate clot formation. With stable clot formation, hemostatis (stoppage of blood) can be maintained.
“This is just another safety benefit for our officers who are out on patrol,” said Broussard. “We want them to feel as secure as possible with the knowledge that we have the most up-to-date, innovative safety measures available for them.”
Officer Adam Trichell spoke about how quickly the tourniquet could be applied in the heat of the moment if necessary.
“If you have one of these with you it is very easy to unpack and apply, regardless of what your surrounding are,” he said. “Obviously it’s one of those things we hope we never have to use.”
