Crowley Police officers seized nearly 30 pounds of marijuana following a traffic stop here Feb. 4.
According to Police Chief Jimmy Broussard, officers conducted a traffic stop in the East Ash Street area on a vehicle being driven by Jeremy Williams, 34, of Crowley.
Officers reported that Williams was acting in a suspicious manner and that they (officers) could smell an odor of what they believed to be marijuana coming from inside the car.
A K-9 was called and alerted on the car, according to Broussard.
Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered a large, black trash bag containing several packages of what officers believed to be marijuana.
Williams was arrested and escorted to the police station for booking, Broussard said.
At the station, 24 packages were removed from the black bag and revealed to be 2-pound bags of marijuana.
In all, about 29 pounds of marijuana with a street value of about $75,000 was recovered, according to the chief.
“This is a big part of the fight against illegal drugs that are trying to take over our streets of Crowley,” Broussard said. “But our officers are continuing the effort every day to put a stop against the drug dealers that are trying their best to keep this going.”
Williams was charged with possession with intent to distribute Schedule I narcotics (marijuana). His bond was set at $150,000.
