A Lafayette man was busted after he arrived atan Interstate 49 Service Road motel in Opelousas with “Mojo Paper,” according to St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz in a news release.
Narcotics detectives received a tip from a confidential informant that a suspect, identified as Eric Melancon, would be delivering a large amount of synthetic marijuana to a local motel, he stated.
The synthetic marijuana has a street name of “Mojo Paper”, which are pieces of paper that have been soaked in liquid synthetic marijuana. The liquid is designed to mimic the effects of THC.
Narcotics detectives established surveillance on the motel, and later observed Melancon arrive in a white Ford Mustang and park on the side of the building. Street team members then approached Melancon, who was cooperative and exited the car.
Guidroz stated,detectives noted a strong odor of marijuana coming from the interior.
A search found a plastic bag with 14 sheets of synthetic marijuana (Mojo Paper); one Xanax tablet; and one marijuana grinder, he stated. Guidroz added that the Mojo Paper has an estimated street value of $7,000..
Melancon, 32, of the 100 block of Windsor Drive, Lafayette, was charged with possession with ontent to distribute Schedule I CDS (synthetic marijuana), possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of Schedule IV CDS (Xanax).
His bail was set at $17,000.
