Driver dies from injuries in St. Landry Parish crash

At about 6 p.m. July 30 Louisiana State Police Troop I troopers began investigating a two-vehicle crash on La. 343 at La. 761 in St. Landry Parish that ultimately took the life of 21-year-old Colby Deemer of Carencro.
The initial investigation by State Police revealed Deemer was driving a 2016 Toyota Camry when he failed to yield at a stop sign to oncoming traffic as he entered La. 343 from La. 761. Deemer’s vehicle was struck in the northbound travel lane by a 2014 Ram pickup truck driven by Jason Esta.
Deemer was restrained at the time of the crash and was transported to Lafayette General Hospital in critical condition. On Tuesday, State Police was notified that Deemer succumbed to injuries on Aug. 3. Esta was properly restrained and suffered moderate. Impairment is unknown but standard toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers. This crash remains under investigation.
