Eunice man accused of stealing school laptops

A Eunice man is accused of stealing eight Chromebooks from a portable building classroom at Eunice Elementary.
Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said Walter Michael Slaughter, 25, was charged with simple burglary.
Fontenot said Slaughter went to the house of an acquaintance and was found on the front porch in the morning. The man invited him in and later that morning the guy was strung out on drugs so the guy asked him to leave, he said.
Sometime during the morning it was noticed there were eight laptops in a bag and police were called, he said.
During the investigation they found Slaughter had bragged about getting into the school, he said.
On obvious clue about the computers was they had St. Landry Parish School Board stickers on them, he said.
Police and school employees discovered a building had been entered and eight laptops were missing.
Fontenot said the theft occurred late July 23 or early July 24.
Slaughter had two addresses, 200 block of South 12th Street and 1100 block of West Ash, police reported. He is charged with possession of synthetic cannabinoid, first conviction; possession of Schedule II CDS, less than 2 grams, probation warrant, and simple burglary.
