A 39-year-old Eunice man has been arrested for setting his Corvette on fire in the middle of Cemien Road in Basile, according to a news release from the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Travis McGee was booked into the Evangeline Parish Jail on Tuesday on one count of arson with intent to defraud, the fire marshal reported.
The Basile Fire Department contacted the State Fire Marshal’s Office following a 911 call about the vehicle fire.
The news release stated, “After assessing the scene, investigators determined the fire was set intentionally. During the investigation, the vehicle was reported stolen by McGee, the vehicle’s owner.
“In an initial interview with McGee, he told investigators several conflicting stories about the night of the fire.
“Through follow-up investigative efforts, McGee was identified as a suspect in the case and a warrant issued for his arrest.”
McGee surrendered to authorities on Tuesday.
