Eunice man facing attempted murder charge arrested after trying to buy firearm

A Eunice man, who is waiting trial on an attempted second-degree murder charged, was arrested after he attempted to buy a firearm, according to St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.
Guidroz stated in a news release that on Aug. 20 John Dale Pastorick, 70, of the 1500 block of West Peach Avenue, attempted to buy a Taurus .410 / .45 caliber revolver.
The business contacted the sheriff’s office about the firearm application denial.
“Upon further investigation of John Pastorick’s past criminal history, it was determined that he was charged with attempted second degree murder in May, 2017,” he stated.
Pastorick’s trial is scheduled in November.
Guidroz stated it was determined that John Pastorick provided false information on a question on the Firearms Transactions Record.
Guidroz stated Pastorick answered “no” on the record that asked, “Are you under indictment or information in any court for a felony or any other crime for which the judge could imprison you for more than one year?”
Pastorick was booked at the St. Landry Parish Jail for fraudulent firearm and ammunition purchase on Oct. 26, he stated.
Guidroz stated, “Federal firearm deals and private sellers have a mandatory obligation by law to report denials to the sheriff of the parish. This law was created to prevent a person from illegally obtaining a firearm when they are not allowed to acquire one.”
