The second suspect in the shooting death of a Church Point man has been located, according to Acadia Parish Sheriff K.P. Gibson.
Tyla Meche, 34, of Church Point was found Thursday afternoon hiding in a residence on the Church Point Highway just north of Branch, Gibson said.
Authorities had been searching for Meche since Feb. 3 morning when she reportedly disappeared into a swampy, wooded area west of Branch with Kervee Woodard, 32, also of Church Point.
Woodard was arrested Feb. 3.
The two are accused in the shooting death of Matthew Mark Briscoe, 32, of Church Point, the night of Feb. 2.
Investigators have determined that several people were traveling in a single vehicle Saturday, Feb. 2, night in the Branch area when, during an argument, Briscoe was shot and killed.
Briscoe’s body was subsequently removed from the vehicle and the other occupants fled the area.
The abandoned vehicle was discovered west of Branch off of La. 365.
Woodard was arrested around 8 a.m. Feb. 3 and has been charged with second-degree murder.
A search for Meche ensued during the following days, with members of America’s Cajun Navy assisting local authorities in searching the swampy area.
Gibson said his office received information on Meche’s whereabouts Thursday afternoon and, within 30 minutes, deputies were able to locate and arrest her.
“I want the thank America’s Cajun Navy and our deputies for the efforts in searching the wooded areas looking for Meche,” Gibson said. “They have all worked hard to find her.”
